Loreena McKennitt is one of my favorite vocalists but her talent doesn't necessarily translate to great albums. Songs range from atmospheric and dark (Mystic's Dream) to folk-y (Bonny Swans, Dark Night of the Soul) to mystically Arabic (Marrakesh Night Market, Santiago).

"The Mask and Mirror" has a few really good songs but not enough to make it great start to finish. "Marrakesh Night Market" reminds me of how there are some songs by Loreena McKennitt is one of the best female voice in the world. The Mask and Mirror contains songs that lift the veil to reveal the soul of McKennitt's work in eight dreamlike, Celtic-inspired tracks.

The liner notes on this CD attest to that and are a pleasure to read, which illustrates her journey to places which may still be hanging on to a wee bit of the past.

Side A runs for about 27 minutes, isn't this a lot?Does that affect the sound in any way? It's not bad, but it seems like an afterthought sometimes, something that was improved on "Book of Secrets" which is part of why that album is better.
