The 49-year-old’s show attracted an average of 8.1 million weekly listeners in the first quarter of 2020, according to industry body Rajar, with their figures released today.This is a decline from the 9.1million people tuning in during the same period last year, Zoe took over the coveted slot on last January, after Chris headed over to Virgin Radio.And the host recently admitted that she does take any drop in ratings personally.During a candid chat with Lauren Laverne on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, she said: ‘You kind of pretend it is not, but then the listening figures come in and your face is “on the tin”.Greg James’s breakfast show on Radio 1 held steady, drawing 4.9million listeners compared to 4.8million at the end of last year.While digital station BBC 6 Music climbed to a weekly audience of 2.6 million, which is a small rise from the 2.5million the channel ended 2019 with.Discussing the figures, James Purnell, director of BBC radio and education, said: ‘It’s wonderful that listeners have granted BBC Radio 6 Music the top spot as the UK’s biggest digital-only station by tuning in in record numbers.‘It’s no surprise that the station’s brilliant presenters and talented teams are proving a winning formula with their love and passion for music.’‘Zoe is a huge fan of Gogglebox and has been watching the show for seven years,’ an insider told the Sun.
