She explores her new house, and with an Alice in Wonderland / Narnia twist, Coraline finds a secret passage hidden in a wall of her home, and beyond the passage, a replica of her own house, only more tastefully decorated and where the food is of a better standard!
My son got it for me when the Blue Ray version came out and we watched it again, though none of us could cope with the 3D glasses provided, all of us found the 2D Blue Ray quite stunning.
He's 10 now, and we just bought a digital copy and watched it again twice as our original DVD has long since been worn out.

Coraline is a good film for all ages to enjoy. A very unique film with a haunting concept. There were so many little details I had missed in earlier viewings; a real test of a good film! However, things start to go terribly wrong when the other parents try to entrap Coraline in the secret home, and their true personalities emerge when Coraline tries to escape. Then we get the beautiful realisation using truly brilliant stop-motion animation and an excellent cast of voice actors. That was quite disappointing. Some of the animation is truly beautiful. Overall I would recommend, just maybe be prepared to take the cover art out and put it in a spare blu ray case. Mainly for the animation (big fan of Nightmare before Christmas and Frankenweenie) but as she's now older she engages better with the story and the message. She rejoices in her discovery, until Other Mother (Teri Hatcher) and the rest of her parallel family try to keep her there forever.

I decided at this rate I'm better of to buy the DVD for the same price as a rental. Caution, the 12a certificate is well deserved as younger children could find parts very upsetting. After I watched the "extras", again I was blown away with the tremendous amount of work that goes into making one of these stop action movies... it is incredible.
My 6-year old just about cooed with it though it’s one of her favourite films. Coraline is a young girl who moves to a new home with her parents.
